Lady Sandstorm

January 10th, 2010

Lady Sandstorm is an obsessed creep.  Really.  She doesn’t care what I do with her as long as there’s hair to peck.  I would have been able to put that diaper on her but I was afraid of accidentally snapping her neck.

Even with her *ahem* oddities, she’s still very loveable and has helped me with many a blog post.

Great links and failure

January 7th, 2010

I tried putting the diaper on Lord Firestar today.  That’s right, tried.  Turns out he’s too big and feathery for the extra small size!  Next I’ll try it on Lady Sandstorm.  Hopefully it’ll work! Here’s a few useful chicken links:Omlet, the art of keeping chickens!Omlet is the company that created the Eglu (yes, that should be enough to tell you that they are great)! They also have a nice forum. With more than 3,000,000 posts, Backyard Chickens is a great place to learn about chickens! My Pet Chicken sells lots of chicken supplies!Well, I guess that’s it for today!

Diapers!

January 6th, 2010

That’s right, diapers!  Some relatives got me and Lord Firestar a purple butterfly extra small chicken diaper!  As you may (or may not) know, I really wanted one!  I’ll take pictures of it tomorrow!  Cross your fingers that it will work right!

We gave the Seramas milk today and Lady Sandstorm drank a lot.  Then her head got too low and it all trickled out of her beak.  It was gross.

Oh, and here’s some weight statistics, cross-posted from blogger Plain Old Chickens:

Lady Sandstorm weighs 13.2 ounces.
Chipmunk is 15.6 ounces.
Egglantine is…. 8.6 ounces!

Funny little Eggie.

My Seramas

January 4th, 2010

I have six Seramas at the moment.  Two from Jerry’s Seramas and four which were hatched from said pair’s eggs.  They are:

  1. Lord Firestar, rooster of the flock.  He’s heroic in the sense that, like a hero in a book, he fears violence and bloodshed.  A gentle rooster.
  2. Lady Sandstorm has an obsession.  She loves hair!  The little creep would spend her life eating the stuff if we let her!  Lady Sandstorm is also a good mom.
  3. The best way to explain Chipmunk’s personality is to say that she would fit right in as one of the three stooges.
  4. Yellow is sort of in love with Lord Firestar.  They hang out together quite a bit.
  5. Help is a little bit dumb but very pretty.  Her body is mostly cream colored and her neck a head feathers are reddish.
  6. Egglantine is the baby of the family!  She’s smaller and younger than the others.

Yes, I’m going to post pictures!

Tomorrow: 2010!

December 31st, 2009

Pretty exciting!  We haven’t had a new decade in ten years!  I’m not sure what I’m going to do to celebrate.  Don’t worry, I’ll think up something.

Introducing…

December 28th, 2009

Yikes!

Yikes is wise and funny.  She likes pecking shoes.

Snowneck!
One of the biggest, Snowneck has a deep, grumbling voice and a huge appetite! She’s sweet and gentle, too!

Cutie-Pie!
She’s huge and strong! Her ambition is to hatch eggs… or never get another case of impacted crop.

Sleeve-Eater!
Sleeve-Eater is calm and quiet. Her vocabulary largely consists of the words “hmmmm” and “booboop!”

Okay, this blog is looking good! Time to write something!

December 28th, 2009

After some very basic customizing, I think it’s time to tell you a little about my birds!  I have 14 hens ( if I did the math right!) and one adorable rooster.  I also had a duck for a while but he decided to leave.  He was cute.

The hen in the picture is Yikes. She’s old and evil but I love her anyway!

Hello world!
