She finally did it! That’s our first egg since August 28, 2009! That’s a long time to go without eggs. But there’s more: Chipmunk and her sisters keep sneaking into the Eglu and sitting in the nest! Maybe they’re going to lay soon. Yay!

Lady Sandstorm layed an egg!
Sunday, January 31st, 2010A beautiful day!
Thursday, January 28th, 2010Explanation
Friday, January 22nd, 2010I haven’t been able to take new pictures lately because it’s been raining! Last night the wood pellet bedding swelled up so much that it lifted the roosts! Poor chickens. Eglus are fabulous but they aren’t the best in wet weather, they’re too low to the ground.
Commenting:
I have been getting a LOT of spam lately! I had no idea how sheltered I was on Blogger. I would love it if any human readers would leave a real, intelligent comment! However, if you do, please do not put any URLs in the comments! Not even in the “your website” box. Thank you!
Poultry show!
Saturday, January 16th, 2010We went to a poultry show today! Here are a few of the millions of pictures I took!

A true Ameraucana (bantam)! She was very interested and alert. Lovely to see.

I just loved this Delaware bantam!
I have plenty of pictures left to post but resizing takes time and not resizing takes space so you’ll have to be patient.
Lady Sandstorm
Sunday, January 10th, 2010Lady Sandstorm is an obsessed creep. Really. She doesn’t care what I do with her as long as there’s hair to peck. I would have been able to put that diaper on her but I was afraid of accidentally snapping her neck.
Even with her *ahem* oddities, she’s still very loveable and has helped me with many a blog post.

Great links and failure
Thursday, January 7th, 2010I tried putting the diaper on Lord Firestar today. That’s right, tried. Turns out he’s too big and feathery for the extra small size! Next I’ll try it on Lady Sandstorm. Hopefully it’ll work! Here’s a few useful chicken links:
Omlet is the company that created the Eglu (yes, that should be enough to tell you that they are great)! They also have a nice forum.
With more than 3,000,000 posts, Backyard Chickens is a great place to learn about chickens!
My Pet Chicken sells lots of chicken supplies!Well, I guess that’s it for today!
Diapers!
Wednesday, January 6th, 2010That’s right, diapers! Some relatives got me and Lord Firestar a purple butterfly extra small chicken diaper! As you may (or may not) know, I really wanted one! I’ll take pictures of it tomorrow! Cross your fingers that it will work right!
We gave the Seramas milk today and Lady Sandstorm drank a lot. Then her head got too low and it all trickled out of her beak. It was gross.
Oh, and here’s some weight statistics, cross-posted from blogger Plain Old Chickens:
Lady Sandstorm weighs 13.2 ounces.
Chipmunk is 15.6 ounces.
Egglantine is…. 8.6 ounces!
Funny little Eggie.
My Seramas
Monday, January 4th, 2010I have six Seramas at the moment. Two from Jerry’s Seramas and four which were hatched from said pair’s eggs. They are:
- Lord Firestar, rooster of the flock. He’s heroic in the sense that, like a hero in a book, he fears violence and bloodshed. A gentle rooster.
- Lady Sandstorm has an obsession. She loves hair! The little creep would spend her life eating the stuff if we let her! Lady Sandstorm is also a good mom.
- The best way to explain Chipmunk’s personality is to say that she would fit right in as one of the three stooges.
- Yellow is sort of in love with Lord Firestar. They hang out together quite a bit.
- Help is a little bit dumb but very pretty. Her body is mostly cream colored and her neck a head feathers are reddish.
- Egglantine is the baby of the family! She’s smaller and younger than the others.
Yes, I’m going to post pictures!
